Sabu
Image 40 x 60 cm
Framed 57 x 79 cm

This silkscreen was produced by the ancient japanese method of painting glue directly on the silk rather than cutting a film and adhering the design chemically. The bed upon which this print was pulled was custom built, hand sanded and varnished. There are 13 layers of varnish on the bed. As well, the frame was custom made to the design. I wanted it to have a japanese screen look so I built the frame accordingly. This particular pull is printed on heavy tan stock. The black ink is mixed with iron oxide giving the negative areas a soft, supple look; there is a very subtle, sanguine sheen to this piece as a result. The floating graphic forms are drawn from the bud of a sweet pea flower. This is a particularly beautiful print which I trust reflects my love of Japanese printmaking. 1 of 75 pulls.
